Six Suggestions for Experiential Learning Activities for the Fresh School Year

Today, in addition to learning textbook knowledge, participation in various experiential learning activities is increasingly emphasized for students. These activities not only enrich students' learning experiences but also contribute to their holistic development, especially in social skills, professional etiquette, and cultural understanding. For the upcoming school term, we have designed a series of experiential learning activities cantered around etiquette teaching for the school. Below are six carefully crafted activity suggestions aimed at helping students learn comprehensively, broaden their horizons, and achieve balanced and positive development.

1. Western Dining Etiquette Workshop


In the Western Dining Etiquette Workshop, students will learn basic etiquette for dining, including how to use utensils, seating arrangements, and conversation skills. This activity not only allows students to naturally experience different cultural dining habits but also encourages them to practice in real-life scenarios. In the context of deepening globalization today, understanding and respecting etiquette from different cultures is particularly important, aiding future business interactions and international exchanges. Additionally, this workshop can boost students' confidence, making them more poised and elegant in social settings.

2. Business Etiquette and Image Workshop


The Business Etiquette and Image Workshop will guide students in mastering a professional image and communication skills, crucial for their future careers. Through mock interviews and role-playing, students will learn how to present themselves in formal settings and understand the importance of a "golden first impression." The workshop design not only focuses on students' outward appearance but also emphasizes the cultivation of inner qualities, such as confident performance and clear expression. These skills will help students enhance their social skills, stand out in front of future employers, and pave the way for their professional development.

3. ESG Project Proposal Workshop


Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) has become a crucial topic across various industries. Hosting an ESG Project Proposal Workshop provides students with the opportunity to explore sustainable development concepts and engage in practical project proposals. This not only enhances their sensitivity to current societal issues but also stimulates their creativity and critical thinking. Students will learn how to analyse problems, formulate solutions, and effectively present their ideas to others, skills that will be pivotal in their academic and professional careers.

4. Chinese Cultural Day (Four Treasures of the Study Lecture and DIY Workshop)

Through lectures on the Four Treasures of the Study and a DIY workshop, Chinese Cultural Day allows students to delve deep into the richness of Chinese culture. On this day, students will have the chance to learn about the essence of the Four Treasures of the Study in Chinese culture. They can also DIY and experience the ancient usage of these treasures, further immersing themselves in cultural charm. This cultural exchange activity helps students view the world from a cultural perspective, enhancing their cultural confidence and identity. It sparks interest in learning, boosts historical curiosity, and fosters national consciousness.

5. Public Speaking Skills Workshop


The Public Speaking Skills Workshop aids students in enhancing their oral communication abilities and confidence. Through group discussions, impromptu speeches, and constructive feedback sessions, students practice in a safe environment, learning how to effectively organize their thoughts, control body language, and captivate audiences. Improving their communication skills not only enhances their ability to express themselves but also equips them to excel in their future careers, opening more opportunities.

6. Leadership Development (Project Management Workshop)


In the Leadership Development Project Management Workshop, students will learn how to efficiently plan, execute, and manage various projects—a vital skill for their future endeavours in academia or business. Through group collaboration, case studies, and hands-on activities, students actively engage in learning how to set goals, create plans, and track progress. They also acquire effective communication skills and conflict resolution strategies—essential competencies for teamwork and project management. This workshop cultivates strong leadership skills among students. Through group activities, taking turns as project leaders allows students to experience leading teams, motivating members, and delegating tasks, valuable experiences for their future work environments. Project management involves not only technical aspects but also handling interpersonal relationships and emotional intelligence. This equips students to tackle future challenges with a broader perspective and enhanced capabilities.

This series of experiential learning activities focusing on etiquette not only enrich students' learning experiences but also help them broaden their horizons and promote balanced and positive development. From Western table manners to business etiquette, as well as understanding ESG proposals, Chinese culture, and improving public speaking skills, these activities complement each other, forming a comprehensive learning system. The specially designed Leadership Development Project Management Workshop hones students' leadership potential and teamwork skills through skill development and practical exercises.
